Subject: Wetlands Run 1998: Day One.

This has to be the longest Disco Biscuits show to date - 4 hours! If you saw the documentary on the Wetlands Preserve you'd know the staff often wanted to kill this band as they had a reputation for pushing their shows longer and longer into the night / morning. This was a big show for the band though, a sold out crowd, it's just hard to fathom they'd be back the next night to do it all over again. And yes the night after that as well.

The sound is a very good audience recording. First ever "Above the Waves". "Basis for a Day" ended up on the reissue of their first album, although not one of their best versions in my eyes. Highlights for me include the jam in "Tropper McCue", and "Pygmy Twylyte" both of which show the band getting way out in space rock land.

Just a quick note: this show got out at about 5am. It was quite a night.

I've never listened to the tape though, so I'm throwing on a generic 3 Star review so I can post this.

Subject: The patience!

Many a phan was converted at this post-Phish show. The jam into Pat and Dex is simple and jazzy, but is a great lead-in. This RLH->SRB gets down and dirty before a great climax, the Basis is good enough that they put it on the re-release of Encephalous Crime, but really the only thing necessary to think of when tlaking about this show is Pygmy -> Run Like Hell. This is an amazing blend of covers...you've got Zappa's swirling psychedelia with Floyd's penchant for Nirvana-esque rage (Wall period). The Pygmy>RLH combo is some of the most patient jamming and is most certainly an insight into some of the stuff seen in what most hail as a turning point year, 1999. The layering and subtlety displayed while thumping out an earth-shattering groove is amazing, and just a perfect example of why the Biscuits are the best at what they do.
